Camping In The Time Of Covid
Outdoors love and a global pandemic.
For my very first blog post I want to share with you something that I wrote from our first backcountry camping trip after being in lock down for nine months.
This website is a creation from my love of the outdoors and also partly a creation from the many lockdowns we experienced here in Canada during the height of the pandemic.
The perpetuation of fear on the boob tube and social isolation was really heavy during those months.
I spent many evenings dreaming of being outdoors or flying down to a warm sandy beach. As soon as the camping ban at Provincial Parks were lifted, my girlfriend, Rosanna and I quickly packed our gear and escaped the concrete jungle.
We traveled to the backcountry of The Massassauga Provincial Park.
Here is what I journaled after that weekend…
“I wake up with gratitude every day, but this past weekend was a little different. After almost 9 months of being locked down (we did not go anywhere at all) my girlfriend and I were finally back in the natural world and what a fantastic feeling it was.
The air is just better out there!
Hard rain, grey skies, head winds, mosquitoes, black flies and deer flies could not shit on our welcome back parade.
The restorative effects of the trees, fresh air, sunshine and the quiet embrace of the silence all around us was absorbed deep within.
I really did not realize how much I missed it all until I was there.
Mother Nature opened her arms and welcomed us back. And boy, was it good to be back! I could have stayed several more nights.
I hope you all take the opportunity to walk barefoot on the grass or dig your toes deep in the sand and let the grounding effects of the earth do its magic.
I encourage you to plan your next adventure, pack the bug spray and get outdoors.
Have a lot of fun & leave no trace.”
Reading this again after so many months I feel the excitement and rush of energy flow through my body.
We just had some fresh snow fall here in the city, but I am confident that this is winter just saying goodbye for another year.
Which means it is time for me to blow off the dust on my camping and fishing gear and begin preparing for another season.
I am ready to get back out in the bush. How about you?
