About Me
Hi, my name is J and I’m really happy you found Sunshine & Bush. I am a Filipino-Canadian from Toronto, Ontario who truly enjoys being outdoors.
One of my great loves is spending time out in the bush exploring, swimming, fishing, paddling, taking photos and just wandering around the comfort of Mother Nature.
When we were children my parents would take my sisters and me on our annual camping trip to beautiful Algonquin Park.
After our initial visit I immediately fell in love with being surrounded by the wildlife and engulfed by the massive trees.
All those moments being out there as a child fuelled my imagination and I felt like I was Mogley from the Jungle Book.
30 years and many outdoor adventures later I decided to create this site to share with all of you.
Sunshine & Bush comes from my appreciation of forests and jungles, my love of salt water beaches and my passion for the great outdoors.
Every time I return to the ocean or begin paddling off on a backcountry adventure, my inner ten-year-old is reawakened.
The magic of mother nature is that the world around you becomes quieter and everything else ceases to exist once you are in her presence.
When I began creating this site I thought of my parents, who originally hail from the Philippines.
They had no website to turn to when they decided to take us camping for the first time.
They had to figure out the Canadian great outdoors on the fly and they were very successful over the years through trial and error.
I look forward to sharing what I have learned along the way. My time in the bush has had such a lasting positive effect on my life and I hope it will for you too.
My objective is to share my knowledge with you, as well as provide you with the resources you may need to plan and enjoy your own outdoor adventure.
